Services for Berniece Allene Schuttler, 96, of Rippey will be held January 24 at First United Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction. Interment will be at the Junction Township Cemetery near Grand Junction.
Berniece Allene (Tilley) Schuttler was born on Independence Day, July 4, 1927, to Allene Berniece (Creighton) Tilley and Joseph Tilley. She joined seven older brothers and was later joined by a younger sister.
She grew up and went to elementary school in the Bayard area, and the family later moved to their Churdan family farm. She graduated from Churdan High School, and went to work in Jefferson for several different companies, including GW Farm Service, and enjoyed roller skating and bowling in her free time. During this time, she met a young farmer from Rippey, Donald Schuttler, and the two dated on and off for several years, eventually getting married in December of 1960.
After moving to a farm between Rippey and Grand Junction, they welcomed two sons to the family, Gregory and Stephen. Berniece was determined to take an active part in the farming operation, always driving tractors and working alongside her family in the fields. She was an active member of the Grand Junction First United Presbyterian Church, the United Presbyterian Woman’s organization, and several other clubs and groups. After Don passed away in 2007, Berniece continued to live on the family farm, driving her beloved Pontiacs until 2021, and then she moved to Regency Park Nursing Home in Jefferson in 2022.
Berniece passed away January 17, 2024, at the age of 96, at Regency Park.
She is survived by sons Steve of Rippey, and Greg and his wife Robin Larson, of Blue Springs, MO; granddaughters Kimberly Dempsy and Jennifer Fraley of Lee’s Summit, MO; and step-granddaughters Laura Molzen of Austin, TX, Andrea Molzen of St. Louis, MO, and Lindsey Molzen of Lee’s Summit.
The family is assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson, 515-386-2171.
